There are three main ways to attract new visitors to your website:
Compelling content that others want to pass on to others
On-page search-engine optimization
Off-page optimization (“backlinks”)
In this post, we’ll deal briefly with the third: backlinks.
The more authoritative backlink you have back to your local business website – the more traffic you will get.
Two reasons for this. First, the more links you have pointing to you, the higher you’ll rank in the search engines. That just tells search engines like Google that you’re important and relevant since so many other websites are saying you are.
Secondly, the more ways you have for people to find you online, the more chance there is that they will via links from other websites.
Where do you get links? One of the easiest ways is through social media websites.
For example, Tubemogul.com is a wonderful tool to use. It’s free and works like this: you submit ONE video to TubeMogul, and in return, it distributes it to dozens of sites for you. Just make sure you write a description with your FULL URL path to your website, and you’ll automatically get links back from all these social media video sharing sites.
Also, you should have a Twitter profile set up – if for no other reason than you’re allowed to put a link in your profile back to your business site. Then, if you wish to, you can tweet to your hearts content – but if not, at least you got that link!
You should also create a Facebook fan page – again, for nothing else other than to put a link back to your local business site. Now, facebook itself has all kinds of uses far and beyond getting a link back to your site, but even if you don’t use all these other benefits… the link itself is worth it.
Other ways to get links – through press release distribution sites like prweb.com – these can get you tons of exposure and backlinks over night to your site. Plus you might score some free media and publicity in the process.
There are other social media sites to consider as well such as hub pages, squidoo, ezine articles and so forth – but just start with those described above to get your feet wet.

Cost is relative. And the website design field is overcrowded. You can use both of these to your advantage.
The first thing you need to know is where to look. If you’re going to go to your local Yellow Pages, or do a search in the search engines for a website designer, you’re starting off in the wrong place.
Think about it – the most prominent people are also the ones who have the most money invested into advertising their services. Thus, to recoup these fees, they have to pass them on to you!
There is no lack of talent in the website design industry. That means you don’t necessarily get what you pay for. In fact, I know several designers who charge only a few hundred pounds to design a website who are better than designers who would charge £5,000 to do the exact same work.
How is this possible? Well, these designers are low key. They earn their living because they are quick at designing websites, specialize in one certain niche, and they don’t have any advertising expenses or a high overhead, since they work from home.
If you’re getting your website designed, or need to get one re-designed, there is no reason to pay through the nose.
The only downside is that designers with reasonable fees and good talent are often hard to keep a secret for very long. They get a reputation and quickly become booked up months in advance in work.
That’s why it pays to start your search immediately, so you don’t have to wait forever to get your work done.
If you’re in need of good design at a reasonable fee, then feel free to contact us.
If nothing else, you should know this – there is absolutely no need for you to pay £5,000 or even £3,000 for a local business website, for it to do what you need it to accomplish.

One of the best ways to make your local business website more profitable is to give your visitor a compelling reason to leave you their contact details.
Why so? Simply put, building a relationship takes time and repeated contact. Whilst your website isn’t your business, you can ensure that you maximize the chance of growing that relationship by putting in place an effective and automated follow-up strategy.
It’s an old marketing adage that at least 7 “exposures” to your product or service are required before a prospect will get out their credit card and buy what you have to offer them.
Using email marketing, through the use of software-based email autoresponders, is a great way to enhance your business’ contact with the visitors that arrive at your website.
You could provide special offers, discounts, coupons, notifications of sales, valuable tips, and so on – all designed to help you build your relationship with your prospective client.

Sometimes Search Engine Optimization can almost seem like magic, or a skill to be be left to a specialist company who might well overcharge for their services.
It’s been estimated that somewhere between 50-80% of all searches online are now local.
And what’s more, local SEO is much easier to gain Page 1 rankings on Google, Yahoo and Bing.
What’s the simplest way to do do this?
Answer: complete your Google Places business listening as soon as possible.
The key is to complete as many details as you can - Google prefers local listings with MORE content.
Include: photographs (all 10!), at least one slideshow video (preferably many more), special offer coupons, opening hours, and son on. A full listing could take as long as one to two hours to complete properly.
Make sure each photo has keywords appropriate to your business; although this is a “slog”, it will be worth it in the long run.
If you’re not sure which keywords best describe your business, use the Google keyword tool to analyse your competitors’ top keywords to give you some ideas – contact us for more details if you’re not sure how to do this.
Essentially, you want keywords in your description to include those top keywords (with somewhere between 2,000 to 30,000 local searches per month).
Next, you want to ensure that your contact details as listed in Google Places are exactly the same as those found on your website and in any local business directories where your company might already have an entry (for example Yellow Pages).
This is very, very important because Google matches business names with addresses where possible when it spiders through its database and other likely places where your website might already be found. If the entries are different, it might not make the link. So having the details exactly the same is a requirement.
Lastly, and by no means least, there are two other categories of information that are very important to help your Google Places listing to be in the top 7:
Reviews
Citations
Reviews are (hopefully favourable) comments left by clients or customers who have used your services. The more review the better – contact us for ideas on how to gain regular, good reviews for your business.
Citations are the Google Places equivalent to backlinks to your website – the more relevant, local and authoritative directories which contain links to your website. The more local and authoritative directories where you can put information about your website, including url, contact details and so on, the better.
Citations and reviews represent on-going work if you want to ensure that your Google Places listing remains competitively in the top 7 listings in local search results.
Of course, if you don’t want to spend your valuable business time to do this yourself, let us know, and we will do the work for you.
